Break with Norms
Resilience comes from change, by natural design. Change can be big and change can be quite small. Your ability to build resilience and adaptability derives from deviating from what you know, do, say, think, feel, and create story around.
- Walk a different way to the subway stop.
- Mix up your morning routine.
- Say less, listen more.
- Drive new roads to the same destination.
- Hold the meeting in a different format.
- Make the soup with alternative spices.
- Vacation in a different country.
- Talk to the person you usually pass by on the street or at the shop.
- Choose a different time of the week or day to do your workout.
- Stay in the heat of the conversation versus abdicating.
- Give away space rather than take it.
- Move your home.
Resilience is the muscle that change builds. Stability resides in your ability to craft and roll with its forces.
Break with your own norms daily, weekly, monthly, trimesterly to fortify resilience within and around you. Don’t leverage it for shock value or with recklessness. Plenty of change is manifesting within and around for everyone to work with without that added feature. Design alternative patterns with awareness and intention as a conscious way to hone your resiliency wand. Over time, resiliency’s reserves meet you when most needed to transcend and grow into where you are to go and who you are to become next.
