Theeo Principle №579
Bias Toward Contrast

Rather than stand still, stay stuck, run in an infinite loop, swirl the drain, or hold onto a tension. Make a decision, any decision that shifts the current state. Your individual and collective neurology changes when you step out of pattern.

  • Try something new.
  • Do something differently.
  • Walk a different route.
  • Make a new tool.
  • Start a new project.
  • Write new code.
  • Design a new policy to propose.
  • Reach out to someone you don’t usually reach out to.
  • Interrupt a habit.
  • Open up about something you generally hold tight to your chest.
  • Stay quiet rather than speak words. Speak words rather than stay quiet.
  • Work with a pen and paper rather than a computer screen.
  • Respond differently than you normally would.

Decisions here don’t mean throwing the baby out with the bathwater or blowing it all up when you feel anxious about the stuckness. More than likely, that is part of your infinite looping. Instead, decisions here mean taking small steps daily toward a new equilibrium in service of a change, provoking a shift, seeding an idea, and then taking another small step.

Remain relevant. Do something unexpected. Act.

Making decisions yields high grade information.
